Welder and steel fabricator wanted

Hemuro Iron Works is a steel fabrication shop in Omitama, Ibaraki. We make the steel columns and beams that form the frame of buildings. We are hiring full-time welders and fabricators.

The work

  • Welder: weld steel members with a CO₂ semi-automatic welding machine (flat and horizontal positions).
  • Fabricator (kajikō): read the shop drawing, cut steel, drill holes, move parts with the overhead crane and assemble them.
  • The work is inside our factory. We go out to construction sites only a few times a year.
  • Shop-drawing CAD operator: make shop drawings and NC data for steel columns and beams with REAL4 (steel-structure CAD). Experience with steel-structure CAD software is required (it does not have to be REAL4). Drawings and communication are in Japanese.

Hours and days off

  • 8:00 to 17:00. No night shift.
  • Overtime: about 10 hours a month.
  • Days off: Sundays and others. 100 days a year.
  • Paid leave: tell us by the day before.

Pay and benefits

  • Monthly pay 176,000–330,000 yen (based on experience and qualifications).
  • No bonus. No probation period.
  • Insurance: employment, workers’ accident, health and pension.
  • Commuting allowance up to 10,000 yen a month (actual cost). You may drive; free parking.
  • The company provides work clothes, welding helmet and gloves. Safety shoes are prepared by the worker.
  • The company pays the exam and course fees for qualifications such as JIS welder certification.
  • CAD operator: salary negotiable (based on experience).

What you need

  • A Japanese standard driver’s licence.
  • A welding qualification is a plus but not required.
  • Japanese: everyday conversation is enough.
  • We do not ask about your education, and no experience is required.

For foreign applicants

We already have foreign staff working in the factory.

  • You can apply if your status of residence has no restriction on working: Permanent Resident (永住者), Long-Term Resident (定住者), Spouse or Child of Japanese National (日本人の配偶者等), Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident (永住者の配偶者等).
  • Please bring your residence card (zairyū card) to the interview.
  • At first you work in a pair with a senior worker.
